Artificial Intelligence at Tenet Healthcare
Tenet Healthcare Corporation is one of the largest investor-owned healthcare services companies in the United States. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, the company operates 65 acute care hospitals and over 450 healthcare facilities, including ambulatory surgery centers and other outpatient facilities.
As of late 2025, Tenet reported trailing twelve-month revenue of approximately $20.8 billion, a market capitalization of around $18 billion, and roughly 98,000 employees across its operations.
Profitability has been increasingly driven by Tenet’s ambulatory care segment, particularly United Surgical Partners International (USPI), which generates a disproportionate share of EBITDA relative to revenue.
Tenet has actively invested in AI to combat clinician burnout, streamline administrative processes, and strengthen financial operations. The company partnered with Commure to deploy ambient AI documentation tools. Additionally, Tenet collaborated with Google Cloud through its subsidiary Tenet Health Solutions to enhance revenue cycle management.
These initiatives support Tenet’s broader strategy to enhance provider well-being, improve care delivery, and optimize financial performance in a high-pressure healthcare environment.
Collectively, these technology investments are intended to reduce administrative burden, improve documentation accuracy, and support more efficient revenue cycle processes. By embedding AI across clinical and back-office workflows, Tenet is positioning itself to operate more efficiently and support financial sustainability amid ongoing reimbursement, labor, and regulatory pressures.
This article explores two business AI use cases at Tenet:
- Enhancing clinical workflow efficiency through documentation automation: Implementing ambient scribe technology to capture patient-provider conversations in real-time, reducing administrative burdens to allow physicians to focus more on patient care
- Enhancing revenue cycle management through AI-driven automation: Integrating advanced AI into end-to-end revenue cycle processes via Conifer Health Solutions to improve accuracy, cash collections, and operational efficiency in financial workflows.
Enhancing Clinical Workflow Efficiency through Documentation Automation
Physicians in the United States continue to encounter significant administrative burdens, particularly the demands of electronic health record (EHR) documentation. When physicians are required to spend excessive time on charting and administrative paperwork, they have less time to devote to patient-facing care, leading to increased clinician burnout.
Even though recent data from the American Medical Association indicates that physician burnout has dropped below 50% for the first time, the issue is still prevalent.
In response to these challenges, Tenet Healthcare partnered with Commure to deploy the ambient AI platform, Commure Scribe, across its employed physician network, Tenet Physician Resources. This network comprises providers delivering medical and specialty surgical care.
CEO of Tenet Physician Resources, Philip Ludwig, said in a press release published ahead of the launch of Commure Scribe, “We are excited to launch Commure’s AI platform across our national network to continue to enhance the positive experience for our patients, providers, and care team.”
A year-long customization process ensued before the official launch. Commure’s engineering team worked directly with Tenet providers at multiple sites to:
- Understand specific workflows
- Tailor note formats
- Define closure points
- Ensure the tool accurately captures location-specific details
Before the implementation of Commure Scribe, physicians had to manually type or dictate patient notes before or after patient visits. The administrative burden reduced time on patient interactions and increased provider burnout.

Commure Scribe functions as an ambient solution that listens to actual patient-clinician conversations, eliminating the need for manual input by clinicians during visits.
The product’s features eliminate time‑consuming manual effort by:
- Capturing clinician–patient discussions in real time, with support for more than 60 languages, accents, and dialects
- Using natural language processing and fine‑tuned large language models to generate structured, clinically accurate medical notes
- Producing automated coding suggestions, including CPT and ICD‑10 codes
- Uploading finalized notes to major EHR systems with a single click
No specific quantified metrics tied directly to Tenet’s implementation have been publicly released. However, Commure has published broader insights indicating substantial potential from its deployments across health systems.
The organization reported that healthcare organizations using Commure Ambient AI have seen an average 81% reduction in documentation time, an average of 43 seconds to close a clinical note, and over a 25% reduction in claim denials
Enhancing Revenue Cycle Management through AI-driven Automation
Healthcare providers face sustained financial pressure from rising operating costs and complex payer requirements. High denial rates further slow reimbursement and strain cash flow.
Ineffective revenue cycle management (RCM) exacerbates these issues. Related denials can stem from medical coding errors, eligibility mismatches, or incomplete documentation.
Industry analyses show that claim denials have risen significantly in recent years, resulting in revenue leakage and increased administrative overhead. Tenet has tackled this challenge internally through Conifer Health Solutions, its subsidiary specializing in end-to-end revenue cycle services.
In late 2025, Conifer announced a strategic collaboration with Google Cloud to embed advanced AI at scale across its proprietary RCM platform.
This collaboration builds a next-generation AI platform fully integrated into Conifers’ workflows, focusing on intelligent automation to:
- Boost financial performance
- Accelerate collections
- Improve the patient financial experience
In the video above, Debby Cornett explains the importance of coding accuracy and the impact on improving compliance and reducing denials.
Given that the collaboration was only recently announced, detailed public metrics such as specific reductions in denial rates, improvements in days sales outstanding, or quantified cash flow gains for Tenet or Conifer have not yet been disclosed.
While Tenet Healthcare has not published performance metrics for Conifer’s work with Tenet Physician Resources, a case study of Conifer’s physician revenue cycle solutions for a multi‑specialty practice reported:
- 77% increase in average monthly collections
- 25% decrease in A/R days
- 80% reduction in coding turnaround time
Deepali Narula, COO of Conifer Health Solutions, noted that results from initial deployments have been positive. “The results speak for themselves. We are excited to be making an investment in a robust AI platform that builds upon our industry-leading expertise to enhance our services at every level.”
