Pony.ai unveils autonomous electric truck for logistics fleets

Pony.ai has unveiled an autonomous electric truck for logistics fleets, developed with GAC Commercial Vehicle for freight provide chains.

Unveiled at IAA Transportation 2026, this Level 4 (L4) heavy rig marks the fourth-generation (Gen-4) iteration of Pony.ai’s Robotruck platform. It builds on GAC Commercial Vehicle’s T9 battery-electric truck structure, with mass manufacturing set to begin later this 12 months. Initial routes will goal long-haul freight, devoted logistics corridors, and port transport operations.

Pony.ai Robotruck sensor structure and equipment prices

An automotive-grade autonomous driving equipment (ADK) equips the car with 9 lidars, three millimetre-wave radars, and 13 cameras, offering full 360-degree sensing across the truck.  

Hardware bills for the system have fallen sharply. The bill-of-materials price for the Gen-4 ADK is down 70 % in contrast with the earlier iteration, and transportation working prices per ton-kilometre are projected to drop by 30 %.

Energy effectivity is paired with aerodynamic refinements. Pony.ai’s management algorithms work alongside the T9 cab’s 0.4 drag coefficient (Cd) to scale back power consumption by 10 % in contrast with typical haulage vehicles.

Virtual Driver compute and chassis redundancy

The Gen-4 Robotruck shares its central area controller with Pony.ai’s seventh-generation (Gen-7) robotaxis, operating the corporate’s unified ‘Virtual Driver’ software program.
